A loving mother and friend, she passed away at the age of 89 at her home, with family at her side, on Tuesday morning, Oct. 10, 2006. She was a retired board-certified social worker and practiced most of her professional years in Baton Rouge. Born in 1918, in the oil town of Goss, she lived her early years inArkadelphia, Ark., later moving to Shreveport for her formative and high school years. A graduate of C.E. Byrd High School in Shreveport, she came to LSU and graduated with a major in English. While at LSU, she was active in Kappa Delta sorority and cheered on her brother, Roy Joe Anderson, a fullback and captain of the LSU Tigers football team. After many years of raising a family, she returned to LSU and earned a master’s degree in social work. An active member in the Baton Rouge Junior League, she was also a member of the D.A.R. She was preceded in death by her husband, George S. Womack; father, Roy E. Anderson; mother, Kelsey Anderson; brothers, Roy Joe and Harris Anderson; and sisters, Revella Simmons and Olive McCarrol. She is survived by her sons, Joe H. Womack of Baton Rouge, Capt. George G. Womack and his wife Susan, stationed in Brunswick, Maine, and Brent S. Womack of Golden, Colo.; grandchildren, Brent Womack Jr. of Mansfield, Texas, Scott Womack of Dallas, Rene Womack of Denver, Kelsey Womack Lowery of Chesapeake, Va., and Paige Womack of Brunswick; and great-grandchildren, Morgan Womack of San Francisco, and Ryan, Brando and Rachel Womack, all of Mansfield. Memorial service at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3552 Morning Glory Ave., at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, UT 84741. Her strength, loyalty and smile will always be a part of us.
