Lillie Virginia Neely, 84, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, went to be with her Lord, on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 1:30 AM in Baton Rouge, LA, after a sudden illness. Lillie was born the only child of Joseph Messina and Josephine Alello Messina on January 3, 1934, in Baton Rouge, LA. Lillie was a graduate of Baton Rouge High School. She lived most of her life a few blocks from Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, which she enjoyed attending, singing in the choir, and listening to the organ. Lillie was a Catholic Daughter of America, was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish since its founding, and a member of the choir at Our Lady of Mercy for over 50 years. She was dedicated to lovingly teaching her strong faith to the younger generations of her family, in particular her many Godchildren and her Granddaughter. She also loved to bake and made a wonderful pumpkin pie. Lillie was diligent to keeping in touch with every member of her large extended family and loved to take photos of all her loved ones. She knew all their names and faces for generations, regardless of how much time had passed. Lillie is survived by her son, Paul Neely, her daughter-in-law, Jannette Neely, her granddaughter, Camille Winningham, her grandson-in-law, Ryan Winningham, her great-grandsons, Thomas & Liam Winningham, her step-grandson, Dexter Kuess, her step-granddaughters, Danielle Keuss & Elania Keuss, her Godson, Noel Youngblood, his wife, Glenda Youngblood, and their children, Lauren Ruckle & Allison Youngblood, as well as her many cousins who cared for her and loved her throughout her life. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst East Funeral Home, 11000 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70815, on Monday, November 5, 2018 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Visitation will resume at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Ave, Baton Rouge, LA 70806, on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at 9:00 AM until Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA. The family wants to thank Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church for always being a part of Ms. Lillie’s life and for ministering to her, her parents, and her family. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church Traditions for Tomorrow.
