“Then He said to them, ‘Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men,'” (Matthew 4:19). John “Pops” Lee Chemin Jr., passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at the age of 77. An avid fisherman, John followed Jesus home. Full of life, John was a loving husband, dad, and Pops. He never met a stranger, loved everyone he met, and always knew where the fish were biting. Graduate of Istrouma High School in 1959, John served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He later retired from LA DOTD Highway Department, District 61, and Salco Construction. A lifetime parishioner of St. Louis King of France Catholic Church and a Fourth Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus 4030 and 6753. Survived by his loving wife, Rosemary Spitale Chemin, of 50 years; loving daughter, Lori, and son-in-law, Wade Johnson; grandchildren, Brett (Jenny) Johnson and Ryan Johnson; great-grandchildren, Addie and Wyatt Johnson; sister, Melba Henzen, of Baton Rouge; and granddog, Toto. Preceded in death by father, John L. Chemin Sr.; mother, Lucille Gaudin; and sister, Stella Gueho. Visitation will be held Monday, October 29, 2018 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church from 9:00 AM until Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Officiated by his cousin, Father Jason Palermo. Interment will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Wade Johnson, Brett Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Keith Gueho, Russell Poche, and Rusty Chemin. The family would like to thank special caregiver, Kathy Morris, and special friends, Marlon and BJ, at Old Jefferson Community Care Center, and Emily, Carla, and Jodi, at Clarity Hospice of Baton Rouge. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Clarity Hospice of Baton Rouge (http://www.clarity-hospice.org).
