Jimmie Gordon Hammond of Baton Rouge passed away, Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Landmark South Nursing and Rehab Center. Gordon was born August 3, 1935 in Baton Rouge to James and Lera Hammond. He grew up in North Baton Rouge and graduated from lstrouma High School in 1953 and the University of Southwestern in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He loved his sister, Marjorie, and they spent 27 years looking out for each other. He loved black coffee, reading the newspaper, Mounds bars and watching old cowboy movies. He was an avid LSU Tigers fan and the New Orleans Saints. He loved his family and all his nieces and nephews new him as “Unk”. Gordon is survived by his son, Kevin Hammond; sister, Marjorie H. Russell; niece, Debra Fletcher (Rick), and nephews: Richard Russell and Ruston Russell. He is also survived by his great nieces: Lorrie Campbell, Melissa Gregg (Jarrod), Taryn Russell and Tristin Russell; great nephew, Ronnie White, Jr. (Amanda); great-great nieces: Kayla Campbell, Alyssa Campbell, Presley Gregg, Caroline White and Hayden Erdey; and great-great nephews: Colby Campbell (Emma), Caden Campbell, and Braeden. He is preceded in death by his father, James B. Hammond; mother, Lera S. Hammond; brother, ­James Norris Hammond; nephew, Robert Keith Russell; brother-in-law, Robert (Bobby) Russell and William Blake Campbell (great-niece’s husband). Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd, on Saturday, February 15, 2020, from 10am until service at 11am, conducted by Pastor Tom Higginbotham. Pallbearers will be: Rick Fletcher, Ronnie White, Jr., Colby Campbell, Caden Campbell, Jarrod Gregg, and Braeden Gregg. Special thanks and gratitude to the staff at Landmark South, Lifesource, his special friend and caregiver Zina, and to all of his doctors and nurses for their exceptional care and compassion.
