“God looked around his garden and found an empty place.

He then looked down upon the earth, and he saw your tired face.

He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest.

God’s garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering, He knew that you would never get

well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough,

And the hills were hard to climb. So, He closed your weary eyelids,

and whispered, “Peace be thine.” It broke our hearts to lose you,

But you didn’t go alone, for part of us went with you

The day God called you home.”

“When the smoke clears, all that’s left is family.” On Friday, October 26, 2018 Jeffrey Charles Landry, son, brother, uncle and friend to everyone he met, passed away suddenly at the age of 38. Born and raised in Baton Rouge, Jeff was the beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Landry (Linda Kaye Smith Landry) of Baton Rouge, LA. Jeffrey attended Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School, Catholic High School, and graduated from University High School – LSU in 1998. He graduated with a BS from LSU in 2005. Jeff’s life was devoted to his family, home, and friends. Anyone that was close to Jeff knew that he was very outspoken about how protective he was about his three sisters and his nieces and nephews. In fact, that is how Jeff became known as “Key.” Jeff told his sister’s boyfriend at the time, that he was the “key” to getting to know Erin, and so stuck the name. “Key” enjoyed playing football, baseball, basketball, and being a self-taught pianist composer and player while he was growing up.  Jeff loved playing golf, the piano, and being with his family and friends. “Family first” was definitely his motto. He possessed a vibrant personality, and his smile lit up any room upon which he entered. Jeff never met a stranger and truly took his mother’s words to heart when she told him, “Go make someone feel wonderful about themselves.” Jeff will be forever remembered and terribly missed by his parents Charles and Kaye Landry of Baton Rouge, his sister, Leigh Anne Landry and her two daughters, Emory Ruth Mayeaux and Briton Adair Mayeaux of New Orleans, LA, his sister, Erin Landry Wright and her four children, Cole Johnston Wright, Chandler Frances Wright, Brooks Kennedy Wright, and Bradley Charles Wright of Baton Rouge, his sister and brother-in-law and their four children, Mr. and Mrs. Jan Pieterse (Jill Landry Pieterse), Olivia Kate Pieterse, Christiaan Barend Pieterse, Chloe Grace Pieterse, and Caroline Landry Pieterse of La Canada, CA. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.  He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Randolph Landry (Pauline Broussard) of Kaplan, LA, his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Smith (Annie Ruth Irby) of Lake Charles, LA, his maternal aunt, Mrs. Glenda Smith Shows, and his paternal aunt, Mrs. Theresa Landry Maxwell.  At this time, the family would like to express its sincere love and gratitude to Jeff’s lifelong best friends that always stood by him through thick and thin. Thank you for always being there for him.  The family takes great comfort in knowing that Jeff is standing guard with St. Peter at the pearly gates telling everyone that enters that he is “a BIG deal” and “don’t get loud.”  A visitation will take place on Wednesday November 7, 2018 from 4-6pm with a Memorial Service to immediately follow at 6pm at Rabenhorst Funeral Home 11000 Florida Blvd. Honorary pallbearers are nephews Cole Wright, Bradley Wright, Brooks Wright, Christiaan Pieterse, and friends Vincent Russo, Jeremy Hix, Brian Jeansonne, Will Woolfolk, Mpho Mmopi, Ned Pearson, and Beau Bauder.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in kind in Jeff’s name to the Brain Trauma Foundation at https://braintrauma.org/donate or to Brothers and Sisters in Arms at https://www.brotherandsisterptsddogs.org/About-Us.html.
