Janella Wininger “Jan” Bowling moved on to be with the Lord on August 23, 2018. She was born on May 5, 1928 in Fountain City, Tennessee. Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur James Bowling; parents Herbert and Bess Lett Wininger; daughter-in-law Katherine Counce Bowling; great-grandchild Elizabeth Grace Dantin; brothers-in-law Fred W. Bowling, David E. Bowling, Richard I. Bowling; and sister-in-law Rebecca Bowling. Jan will be forever in the hearts of daughter Anne Smith of Avondale Arizona; daughter and son-in-law Alice and Noel Grage of Cleveland, Texas; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Jane Bowling of Humble, Texas; son and daughter-in-law Mark and Cheri Bowling of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; 14 grand-children, and 26 great-grandchildren. She is also remembered by sisters-in-law Annas Bowling of Knoxville, Tennessee and Georgia Bowling of Powell, Tennessee, and by many other relatives and friends. In addition to maintaining a household and raising four children, Jan spent time as a school teacher while still in Tennessee, and later in life, was the co-founder of Run Of The Mill Interior Fabrics, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. As an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Baton Rouge, she served on numerous boards, held offices in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, and was a member of the Trinity bell choir. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 11000 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Friday, September 7 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The funeral service will be conducted at Trinity Lutheran Church [Oaks], 15160 S. Harrell’s Ferry Road, on Saturday, September 08 At 10:30 am. There will be an opportunity for viewing before the service. A graveside service will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memories, 11817 Jefferson Highway. The pallbearers will be Warren Bowling, Ethan Bowling, Adam Bowling, Jud Smith, Jason Thorne and Don Hannemann. Tyler Bowling will be an honorary pallbearer. Alex De Luna will serve as the crucifer. If preferred, memorial gifts may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, for the music director fund.
