Grover Cleveland McMakin II, a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away peacefully in his sleep December 15, 2018 at the age of 63.

Grover is remembered for a sharp sense of humor and a contagious smile. He enjoyed his customers and friends at Highland Ace Hardware, where he worked for a number of years.  He loved the LSU Tigers, the New Orleans Saints and the old Houston “Oilers”.  Grover was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity during the time he attended the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He was also a proud graduate of the Neville High School Class of 1973.

He is survived by his son, Grover Cleveland McMakin III of Houston, his brother and sister-in-law, Wally and Andrea McMakin and sister Maconda McMakin of Baton Rouge. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews who all had a special pace in his heart.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe Wallace and Georgeann Kirby McMakin.

Grover’s Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 10:30 am at the First United Methodist Church, 500 Common Street, Shreveport, Louisiana in the Couch Chapel.  Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers are Dixon Abell, Jeff Aycock, Bruce Hanks, Donnie Laudenheimer, Les Loper, Melvyn McCoy, Mike McMullen, Mike Nelson, Charlie Sampognaro, his fellow workers at Highland Road Hardware, and all his teammates from 1972-1973 Neville High School State Championship Football team.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to NAFA (Neville Alumni and Friends Association) 600 Forsythe Avenue, Monroe, LA 71201.
