Gladys Collins Reynolds Brown, born February 18, 1931 to Gladys Collins and James Reynolds in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, died November 2, 2018. She was a lifetime resident of Baton Rouge, having graduated from Baton Rouge High School and Louisiana State University. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William Travis Brown, and son-in-law Stephen Navarre. She is survived by her children, Laurie Brown Atkinson (Wayne), Jennie Brown Navarre, William Travis Brown, Jr (Dana) and Julie Brown White (Brian). Grandchildren, Travis (Jennie), Michael (Katie) and Christopher (Alysha) Atkinson; Laurianna Navarre; Benjamin Brown, Town, Benjamin, Marshall and Margaret Ortego; Jordan and Cameron White. Great-grandchildren, Ryan, Henry and Bella Atkinson. Gladys taught first grade at McDonogh Number 1 in New Orleans and later at Goodwood Elementary School in Baton Rouge. A member of University United Methodist Church she served on various restoration projects, hospitality committees and community life outreach events. She was a longtime member of the Charity Ball Association, the Literary Club, and worked for childhood education through mentoring with the Kids Hope USA Program. A dedicated member of Kappa Delta Sorority, she received the Order of the Emerald for her service. For over 50 years she served as Chapter Advisor, Rush Advisor and on the House Corporation. In 1973 she oversaw the construction of the current Kappa Delta house. The chapter room was dedicated to her in 2013. Visitation will be held at the University United Methodist Church on Wednesday November 7, 2018 at 10:00 am until Memorial Service at 11:00 am. A reception will follow at the church’s Fellowship Hall. There will be a private burial.
