George Donald “Don” Cary, retired plant engineer with Cargill for 40 years, died at 10:50pm on Monday October 8, 2018, at home. He was 97, a native of Sheldon, Iowa, but moved to Minneapolis early in his life.  In 1942 he proudly enlisted in the Navy to serve his country during World War II and was honorably discharged after the war and married the love of his life, Lorraine, in 1947.  In 1960 Cargill transferred him to Baton Rouge.  He was a Life Member of American Legion Post 38 in Baton Rouge and Past Commander of the Minneapolis-Richfield Post 435.  He was also a life member of Knights of Columbus Council 5530.  Visitation on October 11, 2018 at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 15615 Jefferson Highway, from 10:30am until Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30pm conducted by the Reverend Phil Spano.   Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.  Don was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Lorraine Ward Cary, his parents George and Blanche Cary and sister Mary Elizabeth Glasner.  He is survived by his children Craig Cary (Jean), Susan Newsom (John), Curtis Cary (Sue), Todd Cary (Virginia) and Kim Hotard (Jeffrey).  32 Grandchildren and spouses, 22 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great Great Grandchildren.  Pallbearers will be Grandsons, Jeff Cary, Jason Cary, Brandon Cary, Jonathan Cary, Hayden Hotard, Christian Walker, Jeremey Ferguson and Blaise Sims.  Dad enjoyed his world travels with his wife and friends, woodworking, and spending time with all his family and friends.  Special thanks to Clarity Hospice, especially Ingrid, Blair, Michelle and Geary. Also, to his recent caregivers, Ramona, Charo and Sheila.  Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN
