Eloise ‘Lois’ Guwang passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, in Baton Rouge, La. She was born on Oct. 13, 1924, in Metairie, La., one of five children of Kenneth and Mary Cuevas. She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings: Elaine McIntyre, Rosalyn Genre, Margaret Howes and Kenneth ‘Buddy’ Cuevas.  She lived in Springfield, La. after the family moved from Metairie until moving again to Hammond, La.  She and husband Ras Rogers had three children – Judith Elaine, Carol Anne and Lori Elizabeth. Carol died in 1984 and Judy on Oct. 1, 2017. She was married to Clinton Guwang, the love of her life, from 1965 until his death in 1987.  Lois graduated from Hammond High School and worked for years in the business office of Tic Toc Shoes.  In addition to her daughter, she is survived by four grandchildren: Kenneth Daigle (and his wife Catherine) Walter Williams, August Williams and Mary Ellynne Williams, and two great grandchildren, Elinor and Josephine Daigle. She was a friend to them as well as being their ‘Big Mama’ and ‘Maw Maw.”  She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and a longtime resident of Goodwood Homesites in Baton Rouge.  She loved life and was quick with a joke and always willing to lend a hand to others. There was no Elvis Presley or Tom Jones song she didn’t like. She was a devoted and vocal fan of the LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints. She still missed Ollie, her cockatiel who lived more than 25 years and doted over her cats, Little Kitty and Coco.  She loved her family, her many nieces and nephews, their children and spouses. They always remained close to ‘Aunt Lois.’ Special thanks to Kathy Newcomb for her many acts of kindness.  She was also fortunate to have many close friends, including Jackie Williams, Elaine Sibley,  Nhan Nguyen, Camile Van Gorden and Carolyn Landry.  For many years, she had a weekly booray game in which she frequently won. And she played a mean game of Scrabble, enhancing our vocabulary with words even the dictionary did not recognize.  Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4. with a funeral service at the church at 10 a.m. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. at Ponchatoula Cemetery that day.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
