Durbin Benjamin “Ben” Kleinpeter, Sr, age 91, a sixth-generation lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, LA passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday, October 31, 2018. Mr. Ben Kleinpeter was born the middle child of eleven to Leon Richard Kleinpeter and Lillian Mary Gibbens, affectionately known to many as “Nang and Papa.” He was married to the late Jean McCulloh and had seven children. He was a veteran of the US Army and attended LSU (after milking the cows) and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Thereafter, he dedicated his life to the family business, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy. Ben Kleinpeter was the epitome of salesmanship not only through ensuring quality products and service but also in developing lifelong personal relationships with everyone he met. He is known to have said, “I never met a milk drinker I didn’t like!” A gregarious man, with an incredible memory for people and their stories, he served on numerous boards and tirelessly gave back to his community. Ben’s honors include St. Stanislaus, Catholic High, BR Business Report and Marketing Managers Association Halls of Fame, LPB Louisiana Legends, BR Epicurean Society Lifetime Achievement Award, and Louisiana Dairyman of the Year. Ben is survived by his children, Jeanette “Jan” Ponson (John), Mary Alice Mallett (Craig), Kenneth Phillip Kleinpeter, Sr (Antoinette), Sue Anne Cox (James), Stephen Sears Kleinpeter (Lee), and Jeffery Andrew Kleinpeter (Deborah). He is also survived by his siblings, Catherine Elizabeth “Betty” Kershaw, Constance Faith “Connie” LeGlue and Lawrence Martin “Larry” Kleinpeter, Sr as well as his grandchildren, Jeffery Ponson, Jamie Kelley, Stanford, Caroline, and Phillip Ponson; Rebecca, Corey, and Allysa Luttrell; Cameron and Marci Mallett; Kenneth, Jr and Heather Kleinpeter; Renee Cox; Shay Kleinpeter; and Taylor Kleinpeter and great-grandchildren, Andrew, Samuel and William Ponson; Grace and Anna Claire Kelley; Amelia and William Bounds; Ella, Thomas, and Lily Ponson; Talia Talmor; Mary Alden and Emily Luttrell; Aurora and Koan Wolf; Leslie and William Kleinpeter; and Kade, Christian, and Benjamin Savoy. Ben was preceded in death by his wife, Jean, and son, Durbin B. “Durby” Kleinpeter, Jr; his siblings, Leon Richard Kleinpeter, Jr, Frances Lillian Wray, Mary Carrie “Penee” Broussard, Thomas Gibbens Kleinpeter, Sr, Martha Eleanor Lawrence, Vincent Arnold “Bobo” Kleinpeter, Sr, and Francis Michael Kleinpeter, Sr, and great-grandson, Ethan Wolf. Relatives and friends are invited to A Celebration of Life which will be held at the Kleinpeter Activity Center of St. George Church, 7808 St. George Dr., Baton Rouge, LA on Monday, November 5, 2018 from 5PM until 8PM.
