Dorothy Earlene Cook Ackoury Lewis passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018 in Baton Rouge, LA at the age of 79. She was born on February 5, 1939 in Baton Rouge to Robert Earl and Dorothy Hutcheson Cook. Earlene attended North Highlands Elementary School and Istrouma High School (class of 1957) in Baton Rouge. In her career she worked in the accounting field, eventually becoming the Full Charge Bookkeeper and Office Manager for the Grant Chemical Division of Ferro Corporation. While at Grant Chemical she met her future husband (Kenneth Lewis). She left Grant Chemical in 1974 and she and Ken were married that same year. In 1977 she and Ken began construction of their new home in Ascension Parish, which turned into a 4 year endeavor with them completing most of the work. After the home was completed, Earlene became a Homemaker but didn’t particularly like that title, so she had some business cards printed:  one card was titled “Domestic Manager” and the other “Gregarious Aquarius”. She had great fun presenting the cards in jest. Earlene was a talented cook and enjoyed developing new recipes as well as matching recipes for dishes she had eaten at restaurants. Earlene became interested in learning French and studied French at the University of Mons in Belgium in the summer of 1990. During the 1990s she developed an interest in computers and joined the Cajun Clickers Computer Club where she also wrote articles for the club’s newsletter. Over the years she and her husband enjoyed travel to various destinations mostly in Europe and the U.S. Earlene was a wonderful person with a great intellect and sense of humor who never seemed to meet a stranger. She will be greatly missed by all. She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Kenneth W. Lewis; her son, William M. Ackoury and his wife Kim; and her daughter, Rhonda L. Wilton and her husband Robert. She is also survived by her sister, Mary C. “Jo Ann” Miller and her husband Wilmer J. “Bo” Miller, Jr.; and her brother-in-law, Robert A. Lewis and his wife Nancy; as well as a granddaughter, Brandi A. Ackoury; 2 grandsons, Robert Glen Thomson and Christopher Wayne Thomson; and a cousin, Yvonne Kelleher. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, from 12pm until funeral services at 2pm at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd Baton Rouge. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, Baton Rouge.
