Resident and native of Baton Rouge, he was born in the small community of Harelson, LA which is now Sharp and Old Hammond Hwy. Donald was a retired Major in the Baton Rouge Police Department with 30 years of service and was Chief of Security for the Louisiana State Senate .U.S. Navy Veteran having served aboard the USS Fulton and took part in a Bomb test in the Pacific Ocean.  He passed away peacefully in his sleep in The Butterfly Wing at Hospice of Baton Rouge on December 28, 2018 around 3:30 am. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was also devoted great-grandfather. Precede in death by his parents, Culbertson and Magdalene Chaney; brothers, John, Karl, Thaddeus, Harold, Floyd, Lloyd Chaney; sisters, Eula Mae Matherne, Eunice Gilpin, Christine Daigre, Doris Stafford, Bertie Johnson. Survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Jude L Chaney; daughter, Donna F. Ballard; son, David Chaney and wife Frances; grandchildren, Derek Wood, Joey Wood, Donnie & Rebekah Coulon; Great- grandchildren, Alexis, Ashton and Abigail Coulon, and Aiden and Shelby Wood. He was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, step grandchildren, & step great­grandchildren.  Pallbearers will be Derek and Joey Wood, Michael and Keith Ramirez, Cliff Chaney, and Jacques LaCour; Honorary pallbearers, Alexis and Ashton and Coulon and Russell Pellichino. Special thanks are extended to the staff at the Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet and also the staff on the 5th floor East  in the Mid-City Campus. Also, many thanks to the sweet and compassionate staff in The Butterfly wing at THE HOSPICE of Baton Rouge. And to a special friend Debora Russell for her dedicated friendship through the years. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in honor of him and his great granddaughter, Alexis Coulon to St. Jude Children’s Research Center. He was a member of Municipal Police Officer Association of Louisiana, F.O.P. Lodge 1 in Baton Rouge, and the Louisiana Peace Officers Association. Visitation will be Wednesday January 2, 2019 at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East (11000) Florida Blvd. from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm and continuing on Thursday January 3, 2019 from 9:00 am until Funeral Service at 11:00 am in Rabenhorst Funeral Home East Chapel. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
