Robert Anthony Giroir passed away peacefully Sunday, April 29 2018. He was 88 years old and a resident of Baton Rouge. A devoted husband, he leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Myrtis Leblanc Giroir. A proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he also leaves behind a son, Robbie Giroir; a daughter and son-in-law, Danette and Ronald Legendre; grandsons and their wives, Ladd and Abby Legendre and Brant and Brittney Legendre; and great-grandchildren, Landon and Harper Legendre. He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Nola Giroir; a brother, Al Giroir; and a sister, Janie Howell. Bobby was a proud graduate of Catholic High School, Class of ’48. He was only days shy of celebrating his 70th Anniversary of his High School Graduation; he was really looking forward to attending the ceremony. He was an US Navy Reserve Korean War Veteran from 1951 to 1958, and he retired from Entergy, formally Gulf States Utilities, after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Gulf States Utilities Sideliners Club for retirees. A devout member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, he was a member of the Holy Name Society and the OLOM Ushers’ Society. He served as President for the Our Lady of Mercy Ushers’ Society from 1995 to 2000 and Vice President from 2000 to 2002. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus 2807. He was an avid LSU and Saints fan; he would watch or listen to every game he could. “”Poppa”” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was happiest when with his family. He loved maintaining his beautiful yard and flowers, was a colorful story-teller and followed the Louisiana weather closely. Visitation will be at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church from 9:00am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Entombment to follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be his son-in-law, who was more like another son, Ronald Legendre; his grandsons, Ladd and Brant Legendre; his great-grandson, Landon Legendre; and family members Jesse, Jason and Joel Galatas and Kevin Hoffield. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church or Catholic High School.
